ANTHONY MONACO – SECRETARY

When Daylight long serving Secretary VW CoeTug Morgan had the
pleasure of installing Anthony Monaco as his successor,
Monaco became the seventh person the serve Daylight in the
office and one the younger secretaries in the Grand Lodge. Monaco
served the last two years (2006-2008) as Master of the Lodge.
Though young in years he has been a Mason longer than nearly
all of the other Lodge officers.
He became a Master Mason in January 1999.
He and a close friend felt a need for some activity or
organization that would allow them to serve their community and
expand their contacts in life. They sought Masonic membership in
Daylight, a decision that was to prove very important to the lodge.
Monaco, born in Anchorage, Alaska on September 4, 1973, is the only
child of school and college instructors.
Much of his early years were spent in the Land of the
Midnight Sun, and later in his teens on Orcas Island where his
parents live. After high school he did a Grand Tour of Europe, and
then returned to the northwest to attend college, graduating from
the University of Washington. He first worked with the
developmentally disabled but soon entered the computer field and is
now employed by King County in their Executive Services division as
a Senior Applications Developer.
In early 2002 he gathered together a number of the younger members
all very concerned about the Lodge’s seeming lack of direction.
Over pizza and beer they discussed the lodge’s future and set
out objectives that would lay out some long range goals and plans.
This included a decision to concentrate on good ritual,
community involvement and membership. Also until there were enough
officers to fill the officer positions to have two year terms for
elected officers. More importantly it was agreed to make a concerted
effort of adding new and younger faces to the membership through the
use of personal contact with friends and very importantly: the
lodge’s web site. This
goal of new members came to pass and Daylight is now one of the
younger lodges in Seattle.
Before his election as Junior Warden he held of number of different
lodge offices. He advanced to the office of Worshipful Master in
2006 when he was installed for a first time by Grand Master MW
Charles W. McQuery.
During Monaco’s two years as Master, ritual became so good that the
lodge has been invited multiple times to confer degrees for Lodges
outside Seattle. He proved an effective leader as Master and as the
new secretary is expected to continue his efforts.
His proven ability as a young leader in the Masonic Craft
prompted Grand Master MW Douglas Tucker to appoint him to the office
of Grand Sword Bearer for the year 2008-2009. In it’s nearly 90
years of existence he is but the ninth member of the Lodge to wear a
Grand Lodge officer’s collar.
As is often the case with musicians, he is an accomplished ritualist
setting an example of high standards for the Lodge.
He is frequently asked to assist other lodges with their
degree work. He is also
one of the few lodge officers still active as a part time musician.
He has three bands Anthony Monaco, Bun Boy and Left by Zero plus his
own recording studio business, Loophole Recording Studios.
He has appeared at such popular Seattle night spots as “The
Triple Door” “The Central Saloon”, “Fenix Underground,” on the
Daylight Bandstand at the Fremont Fair, and many more.
His music interest is not limited to just popular music, he
has been a season ticket holder to the Seattle Opera for many years,
and has traveled to other opera houses on the West Coast.
